PART III SEQUENTIAL LISTING OF SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
1 - 13 June Ontos were used only in static, defensive positions because of the continued adminstrative deadline.
5 June The installation of three new VRC-71 radios was completed. These radios were tested and found to greatly improved the Communications system of the Ontos.
14 June Company C and Company A, 3rd Platoon (attached to Co. C) began direct support of 7th Marines, Operation ARIZONA. Set-up blocking positions from (AT820550 to AT900570) on north side of the Song Vu Gia river; secured 18 June.
Company B, 2nd Platoon, began direct support of 2nd Battalion 5th Marines in Operation ARIZONA; secured 16 June.
17 June Company C, 2nd Platoon, C-22 received 10 rounds small arms fire from AT904566; returned 350 rounds .50 caliber. Results: 1 VC KIA: confirmed.
18 June Company A, 2nd Platoon, began direct support 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines in Operation BROWN; secured 21 June.
Company A, 2nd Platoon, A-21, A-23, and A-24 received 8-10 rounds small arms fire from AT998539; returned 170 rounds .50 caliber and 30 rounds .30 caliber from AT986535. Results 2 VC KIA confirmed.
19 June Company A, 2nd Platoon, A-25, at 1645H hit enemy AV mine at BT029549 resulting in 4 USMC WIA med-evacs. Mine was pressure detonated with an explosive of 25 lbs. TNT. Ontos and all equipment was salvaged.
25 June Company A, 2nd Platoon, began Operation CALHOUN. Ontos were used to provide road and artillery security at Duy Xuygen (BT083517); secured 30 June.
26 June Company A, 3rd Platoon, while on mechanized patrol with infantry from 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, discovered enemy land mine at BT162602. Mine was destroyed by blowing in place, resulting in 1 USMC NBC as the results of flying shrapnel.
