Throughout the reporting period, subordinate units of this command were assigned missions as follows: Company A, Direct Support of 1st Marines. Company B, Direct Support of 5th Marines. Company C, Direct Support of 7th Marines. 2. 1-31 May 1967. The Civil Affairs program for the month of May in the Yen Bac Hamlet, consisted of treating 430 Vietnamese people in our MedCap program. Projects completed were the conversion of the school house (not in use at this time) into an Aid Station. Fifty-five gallons of gasoline is delivered monthly for the hamlet water pump. Projects under construction are two heads and a shower. 1-31 May 1967. The Battalion continued its role of supporting Southern Sector Rear Area Defense by continuing active daily patrolling of the assigned area of responsibility. 1-31 May 1967. During the month of May there was a decease in the employment of the ontos as a Direct Fire Support Weapon, with the infantry units. The 106mm Recoilless Rifle was administratively deadline on 7 May 1967, and the ontos as a result were employed in static position within combat bases. 1-31 May 1967. During the month of May the Battalion fired a total of seventy rounds 106mm ammunition, one hundred ninety-eight rounds .50 caliber ammunition and two thousand three hundred eighty rounds .30 caliber ammunition. Returned on 2 May at 0900H. Negative contact. 2 May Light Section, 2nd Platoon, Company C in support of squad from 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, detonated a M-26 AP Mine. Result- ing in one USMC MedEvac. First Platoon, Company A, Ontos A-11 and A-12 received 30 rounds small arms fire from treeline at BT044697. Ontos A-11 expended one 106 mm round and two .50 caliber rounds from BT 052697. No search was made due to mission. Ontos A-11 and A-12 received fifteen to twenty rounds small arms fire from BT044697. Ontos A-11 expended fifty .30 caliber rounds from BT052697. No search was made due to mission. 3 May Third platoon, Company A observed three VC crossing river in boat. Ontos 3-1 expended three rounds 106mm. No search was made due to water barrier. Light section, 3rd Platoon, Company C, 3rd Antitank Battalion escorted 155 Self-propelled guns to coordinates 8857. Negative contact. 4 May Light Section, 1st Platoon, Company C in support of 1st Battalion 7th Marines received two incoming grenades at coordinates BT929708. Returned fire with thirty rounds of .30 caliber machine gun fire. Negative results. One USMC WIA NonMedEvac. 5 May First Platoon, Company A, Ontos A-11 and A-12 received two rounds small arms fire BT046686. Ontos A-12 expended two hundred fifty rounds .30 caliber ammunition from BT051686. No search was made due to darkness. Ontos fired three rounds 106mm. Area search with negative results. 9 May Third Platoon, Company A Ontos A-32 and A-34 received small arms fire. Throughout the reporting period, subordinate units of this command were assigned missions as follows: 1st PLT, DS 3d Bn First Marines 2nd PLT, DS 2d Bn First Marines 3rd PLT, DS 1st Bn First Marines 2. 1-31 May 1967. The Ontos in DS of the 1st Marine Regiment. 1-10 May 1967 Company A continued to provide Ontos for escort missions, mechanized patrols and defensive positions. 10-31 May 1967 the Ontos were on Admin Deadline and used only in defensive positions. The terrain is excellent for Ontos operation in the First Marine TAOR. 3. 1-31 May 1967. The Ontos fired (63) 106MM rounds, (195) .50 Cal. rounds and (2,000) .30 Cal. rounds. The 106mm recoiless rifle was administratively deadline on 8 May 1967, and the Ontos as a result were employed in static positions within combat bases. The Ontos of Company C fired a total of seven (7) 106mm rounds, three (3) .50 Cal. rounds and three hundred and eighty (380) .30 Cal. rounds during the month and have traveled a total of 412 miles in support of infantry units. PART III SEQUENTIAL LISTINGS OF SIGNIFICANT EVENTS 1 May 1967 - Light Section 3rd Plt. Company C occupied blocking position in support of squad from K/3/7 at AT 917596. Returned on 2 May at 0900H.
